Here are your answers compared to this voter’s answers.
Social › Abortion
5>5 Personal answerPro-choice, and providing birth control, sex education, and more social services will help reduce the number of abortions |
Social › Gay Marriage
5>5 Personal answerYes |
Domestic Policy › Gun Control
5>5 Personal answerYes, the second amendment only allows for the right to bear arms in a militia, as the founding fathers intended. Not until recently (2008 District of Columbia v. Heller) has the supreme court guaranteed an individual the right to own a gun. |
Crime › Police Body Cameras
5>5 Personal answerYes, this will protect the safety and rights of police officers and citizens. We do not want a more militarized police force. Police are to protect and serve the people of the country. Police need better training on communication and confrontation skills. The safety of the people should come before that of a policeman. They are a public worker paid by the people of the country. |
Immigration › Muslim Immigrant Ban
5>5 Personal answerNo, banning immigrants based on their religion is unconstitutional |
Social › Planned Parenthood Funding
5>5 Personal answerYes, their services reach far beyond abortions and can save many lives through cancer screening, prenatal services, and adoption referrals |
the Economy › Minimum Wage
5>5 Personal answerRaising the federal minimum wage would cause many industries to adopt automative technologies instead of paying for employees' higher wages. This then leads to an increase in the amount of unemployment. If education can be addressed these people can try and get a degree and a better job than being in the service industry. Unless that happens something else needs to be done to support the people that will lose their jobs. Such things include universal basic income. The current welfare system would need to be revamped as it currently leads to a poverty trap. To really get people better jobs a shift in ethical mentality needs to happen in order for true reform to take place. Meaning primary education needs to be addressed first which brings up a slew of other problems such as a education system that does not rely on standardized tests but allows children to find passions. As stated before this can only happen if a mentality shift in how we treat others occurs, primarily an increase in empathy. |
the Environment › Climate Change
5>5 Personal answerYes, and provide more incentives for alternative energy production |
Domestic Policy › Drug Policy
5>5 Personal answerYes, and retroactively reduce sentences for those already serving time. As stated above decriminalizing has to be done in conjunction with the government proving adequate counseling and treatment for addicts. |
Education › Student Loans
5>5 Personal answerYes, and college tuition should be of minimal cost to anyone. I do not advocate free tuition as that can lead to excess waste. An example would be Slovenia where university is free but people stay in school for 7 years to get an art degree. This is a waste and the person is not contributing to society at that point. Minimal cost incentivizes the person to finish their degree in a timely manner without the burden of student loans. Also the college book crisis needs to be fixed as companies like Pearson are not writing books for the general good that comes from education but for profit which places an undue burden on students, teachers, and the administration. |
Healthcare › Marijuana
5>5 Personal answerYes the drug should be legalized, taxed, and regulated like tobacco and alcohol. Even more so all cannabis should be laboratory tested. Also anyone serving time solely for marijuana drug offenses should be released from prison. If the drug offender was caught selling to a minor then he/she should suffer the same penalty as those who sell tobacco to a minor. |
Healthcare › Medicaid
5>5 Personal answerYes, It is a step forward in the right direction but a tax to support government run healthcare (single payer system or universal healthcare) would be cheaper and better for the american public. Insurance agencies are private businesses whose bottom line is profit (As are all private businesses). A government run system allows for the citizen to come first as the government is not incentivized to make a profit. Rather the government runs the program for the people as a general good. Such as firefighters, roadworks, NASA, the R&D funding to develop new drugs, etc. Medicaid and Medicare are such programs but have flaws that stem from butting heads with big Pharma (high drug prices), to the lack of nutritional education support which is a preventative measure in medicine which affects a higher percentage of people in a low socio-economic situation. Also this system leaves treatment to the private sector but standardizes prices for all medical expenditures. |
Science › Mandatory Vaccinations
5>5 Personal answerYes |
Immigration › Immigration Healthcare
5>5 Personal answerYes, if they pay taxes |
Elections › Voter Fraud
5>5 Personal answerNo, as voter fraud is not the issue, election fraud is. Also I believe everyone should have to vote or abstain from voting, automatically register every citizen to vote when they turn 18. It is a citizen's duty to vote as he/she is enjoying the benefits of society regardless if they disagree with the government. The government should make voting days a national holiday as to allow everyone time off of work to vote. |
the Economy › Government Spending
5>5 Personal answerNo, cuts to other government run entities should be cut first such as the military budget. In addition, corporations and wealthy individuals should be taxed at a higher rate. If citizens united allows corporations to act as people then corporations should all be taxed at the highest rate. This is because those that make a lot of money are inherently making that money off of someone else. Opponents may state the just-world fallacy to justify keeping their money but it is what it's called, a fallacy. |
Crime › Solitary Confinement for Juveniles
5>5 Personal answerYes, it is severely psychologically damaging to young undeveloped minds. We should create more social programs to help prevent and rehabilitate criminals. It goes against the 8th amendment of the constitution. |
Domestic Policy › Affirmative Action
5>5 Personal answerAffirmative action was created because of the horrors done to african americans (slavery) and native indians(forcing them off their native lands). Equality will only come about when everyone is equal and no one gets preferential treatment. That ultimately comes from a mentality shift in which one views all others as equals and can empathize with any person regardless of skin color, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion or lack there of. At the core is the upbringing of children. Primary schools should emphasize ethics and the US government should accept what it did to minorities in the past and work to actually solve the problem of inequality rather than give handouts to people to make it seem like they are doing something when in reality it does not address the actual issue. |
Education › Common Core
5>5 Personal answerI do not support common core and I do not support the current implementation of it. We should be teaching to a student's potential rather than trying to standardize everyone's education. This way no student gets "left behind" in their aptitude to learn. The US ranks 17th out of 40 countries in education. That is a mean of our education system. As in Finland (#1 education in the world), every school should be the best school. It should not matter where one lives or what one's socio-economic status is, the school nearest to you should be the best school. As our society is separated into areas of wealth and areas of lesser wealth the current funding of primary schools based on property tax heavily favors the wealthier neighborhood's children's education. In order for equal education the government should allocate more resources to schools in less wealthier neighborhoods to offset for the fact that wealthier parents can pay more out of pocket for their children;s education. This may not seem fair but one must remember that lower income neighborhoods have to deal with more problems such as violence, discrimination, drug use, etc. As an alternative to Common Core we must allow kids to be kids. 3-4 hour school days for 3-4 days a week when they are younger and 5 hour school days when they get older. No homework. Such is the practice in Finland. |
Immigration › In-State Tuition
5>5 Personal answerYes, as long as they pay taxes |
the Environment › Oil Drilling
5>5 Personal answerNo, utility cost of the environmental impact is too high to warrant drilling for more cheap oil. We should be looking into subsidizing more alternative energy and putting an emphasis on reducing, reusing, and recycling (In that order) oil based polymer products. Opponents may say that expanding drilling would create jobs but those jobs can be mirrored and multiplied in rebuilding our infrastructure: water pipelines, roads, bridges, telecommunication line (internet), the electrical grid, etc. |
Healthcare › Obamacare
5>5 Personal answerYes, It is a step forward in the right direction but a tax to support government run healthcare (single payer system or universal healthcare) would be cheaper for the american public. Medicaid and Medicare are such programs but have flaws that stem from butting heads with big Pharma (high drug prices), to the lack of nutritional education support which is a preventative measure in medicine which affects a higher percentage of people in a low socio-economic situation. |
the Environment › Fracking
5>5 Personal answerNo, we should pursue more sustainable energy resources instead |
Science › Nuclear Energy
5>5 Personal answerYes, modern nuclear reactors are safe and can supply a huge amount of energy. There are alternatives to nuclear energy although in the form of solar, wind, and tidal power. I believe it is up to the area that the energy will be supplied to make a decision on whether they want to build a multi-billion dollar nuclear plant. The government allows monopolies on public utilities to private companies. Once we have laws allowing actual capitalism to take place the market/consumer will decide which forms of energy he/she wants to use. Although the government should subsidize clean energy. This goes beyond energy and can be applied to internet communications. Gas and water should be either state or federally run. |
Science › GMO Labels
5>5 Personal answerWe have selectively bred crops for thousands of years and labeling just adds an unfounded stigma to the science. As long as food companies prove that their genetic engineering has no detrimental effect to the consumer they should not be required to label foods. |
Crime › Criminal Voting Rights
5>5 Personal answerYes, every citizen deserves the right to vote. Felons should be the first to vote as they have a right not to be subject to cruel and unusual punishment. This is also a way to show felons that society has not given up on them. We should try and rehabilitate felons rather than solely incarcerate and punish them. |
Foreign Policy › Terrorism
5>5 Personal answerTerrorists that commit acts on multiple countries should be subject to an international tribunal. This promotes international cooperation and sets a standard for the world as to how to treat terrorists in any sovereign nation as one nation may be biased in how to treat a terrorist. (Such as the US's treatment of terrorists even though we are to blame for their motives, an outside observer may see that the terrorists motives were driven how the US treats(ed) their country). Domestic terrorists (Those born with the country they committed the act) should be subject to a fair trail within their country. Guantanamo Bay should be shut down as multiple people who have been sentenced their have left being cleared of any terrorist affiliations. It is unethical to torture people. Whistleblowers should not be treated as terrorists. |
