Pro-Israel Dark Money Group Spends Millions Targeting Candidates

In Portland, Oregon 314 Action Fund, which describes itself as helping to elect “Democrats with a background in science to public office,” is throwing its weight behind Maxine Dexter, a state representative and local doctor.

By waiting until April to launch its spending blitz, 314 Action is able to delay disclosure of its donors until May 20.

Susheela Jayapal, the sister of Rep. Pramila Jayapal, was considered the candidate to beat before the sudden influx of money last month.

The Intercept reported that Susheela Jayapal is being targeted by the American Israel Public Affairs Comm…  Read more

I'd like to move from the NE, hopefully before elections (& before the WHO's Pandemic Treaty, signed this week, is enforced). What area of KY do you recommend (or where should I avoid)? Massie is the first politician I've seen to totally buck the trend. I like Rand (both), too.

Houthi Rebels Will Increase Drone Attacks

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed attacks on two ships in the Gulf of Aden and one in the Indian Ocean.

The MSC Diego and the MSC Gina were attacked with ballistic missiles and drones in the Gulf of Aden, the Iran-aligned group’s military spokesperson Yahya Saree said on Thursday.

The attacks on the ships in the Gulf of Aden – identified by the Houthis as the “Israeli” MSC Diego and the MSC Gina – were “accurate”, Saree said, without providing details.

However, the United States-led Joint Maritime Information Center said two missile attacks took…  Read more

I really like Yemini. At least they're helping the situation of Palestinians unlike the other major arab countries.

 @DelegateDotterelGreen from Florida commented…2wks2W

Religion is being used as a "front group" for Houthi power and Iranian money. Arguably, Israel's perceived, or factual, nonsymmetrical response to the Hamas terrorist attack did no favors to capitalism or a stable Middle East theater. These three players are Israel, the Houthis, and Iran; all need a "prong collar rather than support for these three actors.

 @WeaselTerryRepublican from Mississippi commented…2wks2W

Iran needs to be held to account for its backing of rebel groups throughout the Middle East. It is sowing violence as much as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. Iran's leadership should be in the dock at the World Court.

 @IndependentDonnyDemocrat from Minnesota commented…2wks2W

If the Houthi's support Palestine and this is the reason for their unlawful attacks of ships then why don't they accept Palestinian refugees into their country? Or why don't they go to Gaza to fight with Hamas? Or why don't they provide aid to Gaza instead of spending those millions of dollars on cruise missiles to disrupt freedom of navigation?

Criminal Cases Against Trump Stall Before Election

What once resembled a wall of legal obstacles that stood between Donald Trump and his return to the White House is now looking like little more than a series of speed bumps.

Prosecutors handling cases from Georgia to Florida to Washington, D.C., are discovering that bringing groundbreaking criminal charges against a former president is a lot easier than getting them to trial.

But, as of now, the wave of prosecutions don’t seem destined to deliver the kind of legal accountability that Trump’s investigators promised — or the devastating political blow to Trump’s presidenti…  Read more

We face the dreadful prospect that the election might be decided by the voters. This is, I'm told, bad for democracy.

 @ResoluteCrackersVeteranfrom Maine disagreed…2wks2W

False dichotomy, of course. Thinly-veiled, at that.

While that was always going to be the case, for us authentic conservatives... aka, constitution-first types... we figure that if someone is legit accused of breaking big rules, that's on them. Constitution says let jury decide.

 @RightistBrianNo Labels from Massachusetts commented…2wks2W

Anyone who’s been depending on a deus ex machina to save us has been deluding themselves. The ONLY way this gets resolved is at the polls.

The country should be deeply afraid about what Democrats will do next if their Soviet lawfare attempts fail. Democrats and their throne-sniffing media apparatchiks believe they are justified in doing anything to prevent the American people from electing Trump again.

 @GuiltyTigerDemocrat from California commented…2wks2W

But Trump has been claiming that the prosecutions have helped his campaign. So won't the lack of cases this year harm his campaign? Or is Trump just a liar. Nevermind. We all know he lies all the time about everything.

Conservative Judges Will Not Hire Columbia University Graduates

13 Judges appointed by Donald Trump say they will blackball graduates of Columbia University, ratcheting up a pressure campaign against schools they deem hostile to conservatives.

The judges said the New York City school’s response to pro-Palestinian protests was inadequate and that the campus had become an “incubator of bigotry” with rampant antisemitism and a lack of diverse perspectives.

The letter illustrates the relationship between influential judges and the law schools that train future attorneys and offers a glimpse into the potential repercussions for students and schools after a spring semester marked by disruptive pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

None of the signatories attended Columbia.

 @PolicyZebraRepublican from Florida commented…2wks2W

As a conservative and a Columbia graduate, I'm disappointed. To begin with, every elite law school has a liberal slant; there isn't anywhere for conservative students to go where they won't swim against the tide. That said, nearly every flaming liberal professor I had was respectful of my views (typically it was the administration who failed to act impartially), and Columbia continues to have a vibrant Federalist Society chapter .

 @Centr1stZachForward from Michigan agreed…2wks2W

This is a thoughtful response. I think it highlights an important point: Universities certainly trend liberal, but despite what is exaggerated in the media or spewed as anti-liberal conservative talking points, most professors are not brainwashing liberals. They generally respect most of their students, even though most university Professors and student body tend to one side of the political spectrum.

 @PolicyZebraRepublican from Florida disagreed…2wks2W

These judges lack a nuanced perspective of the diversity of students at any University and the significant challenges that conservative soon-to-be lawyers face in the liberal elite colleges. It's important to recognize and empathize with these challenges within and outside the university. These judges failed to note that importance.

 @CulturedC0nsensu5Green from Virginia commented…2wks2W

It's sad that judges, whose job requires basic fairness, should endorse this sort of collective punishment - it suggests they, rather than all graduates of offending schools, are unqualified for the judiciary.

 @HumanRightsJaguarDemocrat from Illinois commented…2wks2W

These judges aren't going to hire a liberal student, no matter where that student attends. The only people being punished here are conservative students who attend Columbia.

 @GutturalBasmatiLibertarianfrom Northern Mariana Islands commented…2wks2W

This also punishes people who were opposed to the protesters.

Yes, the protesters get a lot of air time, but that doesn't mean they represent the whole student body. Yes, there are students who try to inflict their views thru cancel culture, but a ban would not only affect them but also their victims.

A ban might feel good but is far too blunt an instrument.

West Virginia Needs Workers But Resists Immigration

West Virginia's labor-force participation rate—the share of the 16-and-older population either working or looking for work—was 55.2% in March, the second-lowest in the country.

Some states including Maine, Indiana and Utah, have sought immigrants to shore up their workforces.

West Virginia represents one extreme in its labor needs, it represents another in its resistance to immigration.

 @MinorityBrandonForward from Oklahoma commented…2wks2W

Just shows how it's bad to have one party control for either side. Allows the extremes to govern unchecked rather than force a compromise to the middle. And the middle is where the right answers usually are found.

Shame that immigration has become so political. Makes compromise nearly impossible. But more necessary than ever.

You hit it on the nose. Being solely conservative or liberal is a dangerous stance because people like that don’t want to look at the complexities of reality and counter examples that blow a whole into any blanket argument.

 @EmptyLegislativeSocialist from Nebraska commented…2wks2W

So the Republican governor, and legislature, of West Virginia, would rather see its oldest, and most vulnerable, citizens die waiting for healthcare than to employ immigrants who are in the U. S. legally?

Why?

 @UnhappyPolitic4lRepublicanfrom Georgia agreed…2wks2W

It is a fact of life that old people die. We have to address how many of our health care dollars are spent trying to stretch out the dying process. I do not think it is kind to keep someone in this kind of existence. Before you start pointing fingers at me, I am very close to 80 yrs. old.

 @EmptyLegislativeSocialist from Nebraska disagreed…2wks2W

It's not death we need to worry about. It's living with the indignities of age. Older people can live with dignity when they have proper care. When my parents reached their 90's, they were fortunate to have home care providers from the Caribbean islands who were incredibly lovely: they treated my parents with respect and sympathy.

Biden faces internal Democratic blowback over Israel weapons pauses

President Biden is facing unusually harsh criticism from some pro-Israel lawmakers in his party for pausing shipments of weapons to Israel.

Japan Resumes Large Whale Hunting

Japan will add large fin whales to its list of commercial whaling species, government spokesperson Yoshimasa Hayashi said on Thursday, five years after leaving an international body that regulates the commercial hunt of the marine mammals.

Japan resumed commercial whaling in its territorial waters and exclusive economic zones in 2019, on withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission (IWC).

This week, its Fisheries Agency sought public comment on a draft revision of its aquatic resource control policies that would allow commercial catching of fin whales.

The Japanese government will conti…  Read more
