How would personally experiencing student debt, or knowing someone who struggles with it, influence your opinion on the government forgiving student loan debt?

 @9LFSYWZ from Wisconsin answered…2mos2MO

It wouldn't. You take out a loan, you pay it back. If you can't, dont take out a loan.

It would depend, you could look at it as if it was unfair to your friend or whoever that someone else's student debt was forgiven while their wasn't, but you could also look at it in a way that is hopeful and shows that maybe sometime in the future their student debt will be forgiven as well

I think it would put more value on higher education because people usually don't pursue a higher education due to the price and being unable to afford it, but with the student debts being forgiven at this time it encourages people to pursue a higher education

Do you believe it's the government's responsibility to intervene and alleviate student debt, or should individuals bear the full cost of their education?

 @9LFFYC9 from Kansas answered…2mos2MO

It’s a hard question. I believe if someone takes out a loan, they should pay it, but with inflation as high as it is, maybe they should be forgiven. It is the governments fault inflation is so high

While Vice President Harris's efforts to address student debt might seem admirable to some, it's important to consider the broader implications of such policies. Offering blanket debt forgiveness might feel like a quick fix but it risks unfairly burdening taxpayers who chose not to attend college or worked hard to pay off their own loans. Instead, we should focus on reforming higher education to make it more affordable in the first place, ensuring responsibility and fairness for everyone involved.

It’s really heartening to see Vice President Kamala Harris taking such a strong stance on student debt relief during her visit to Philadelphia. This move by the Biden administration feels like a significant step in the right direction towards making higher education accessible to all, regardless of their financial background. It’s about time our government takes serious action to alleviate the financial burden on students and their families. I truly believe efforts like these not only demonstrate a commitment to addressing crucial economic disparities but also underscore the importance of investing in the future of our country’s workforce.
