The United States has drafted a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip “as soon as practical” and opposing an Israeli ground offensive on the southern city of Rafah.
The draft, seen by Al Jazeera on Monday, said the Security Council should underscore “its support for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza as soon as practical, based on the formula of all hostages being released” while also “lifting all barriers to the provision of humanitarian assistance at scale” in Gaza.
The US draft also warns Israel not to launch a ground offensive in Rafah, saying: “The Security Council should underscore that such a major ground offensive should not proceed, under the current circumstances.”
Israel has said it plans to storm Rafah, where more than 1.4 million of the 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza have sought shelter. Those plans have prompted widespread international concern that such a move would kill large numbers of civilians and sharply worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which is on the brink of famine, according to the UN.
Algeria, the current Arab member of the Security Council, put forward an initial draft resolution more than two weeks ago, which would demand an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel’s war on Gaza.

Read moreThe IDF is learning a lesson from the Russian invasion of Ukraine - if you pierce a building with just one missile or bomb, that structure becomes unusable by anyone who might want to live there. If you strategically obliterate an entire building with a massive blow, then all the infrastructure around it is compromised.
For all the talk of a war against Hamas, this is really a war against Palestine in Gaza. By claiming a strike on their enemy, Israel is telling the Palestine that they can no longer live in Gaza.
At the same time, they are making it impossible for refugees to take shelter in the West Bank, presumably because there will be another "incident" that will mandate that the IDF strikes that territory as well

It happens all the time to Palestinians, indefinite arrest without charges, humiliation, killings, expropriation of land, destruction of homes, they just wanted Israelis to feel the same
I don't approve of what they did, we need to feel their pain and greivances too.
@PollsterPearGreen3mos3MO
As a left-wing Israeli *** I am extremely critical of my government's actions, the inhumane devastation of Gaza and the colonialist violence in the west bank.
But calling 7.10 a mere "incident" is abhorrent. Let's see you call it an "incident" when terrorists enter your sovereign state, blindly murder 1200+ people, rape, torture and kidnap.

When do we do more than ‘glimpse’ at a situation where over two million men, women and children, deprived of such human basics as water, food, fuel, medical supplies and devices and even freedom to seek safety from constant bombardment? Is it even possible that the U.S. would support, supply and pay for this nature of conflict

"The Marshall Plan, also known as the European Recovery Program, was a U.S. program providing aid to Western Europe following the devastation of World War II. It was enacted in 1948 and provided more than $15 billion to help finance rebuilding efforts on the continent."

Time.
Hostages must be soon freed.
Says Gantz, or Rafah will bleed
Ramadan's the date
That could seal Rafah's fate
The clock ticks, but will Hamas heed?
@SoulfulGatoradeGreen3mos3MO
This is a US backed and enabled genocide. Israel must be dismantled.
Israel is modern Nazi Germany, and should be treated as such without mercy until the genocide is stopped and their leaders stand in chains before the Hague.
